MSDS – Material Safety Data Sheet
There are two important document along with each chemical product – PIS & MSDS.
MSDS Fact sheets designed to reflect the hazards of working with and/or storing a particular chemical; they provide workers with information such as physical data, toxicity, health effects, first aid, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment and spill/leak procedures
MSDS-SECTIONS
a) Product & manufacturer identification
b) Composition-ingredients etc
c) Hazard identification
d) First aidc measures
e) Accidental release measures
f)
Handling &storage
g) Exposure controls, personal protection
MSDS-SECTIONS
h) Physical &chemical properties
i) Stability& reactivity data
j)
Toxic information
k) Transportation
l)
Disposal measures-consider the environment.
m) Spillage etc
For Safety & Awareness
❖ The original container is designed to hold the chemical product without leakage and degradation of the chemical.
❖ The original container is chemical resistant and will have accurate label on it.
❖ In case there is no label or if it is not clear, people will try to identify the product by touching, smelling or even by tasting, which is primitive method and extremely dangerous.
PPE - Personal Protection Equipment
Equipment or clothing worn to prevent injury or illness from occurring while handling hazardous materials
PPE - Personal Protection Equipment
What are required PPEs?
➢ Safety Shoes
➢ Chemical Resistant Gloves
➢ Face Mask With Filter
➢ Vent Goggles
➢ Aprons
➢ Hats/Helmets where ever required.

CHEMICAL DOSING/ DILUTION STATION
❖ Make sure that properly labeled clean bottles are used to dose the chemicals from dispenser. ❖ Make sure that you are equipped with PPE ❖ Take care while changing the drums/ cans etc. at the refill stations/ Dispensers. ❖ During the removal of feeder tubes and replacement of new drums, special care to be taken in order to avoid chemical splashing. ❖ Always dispose off empty containers safely ❖ Do not mix chemicals.
ACCIDENTAL SPILLAGE OF CHEMICALS
Powder products
Liquid products
POWDER PRODUCTS
Any spillage of powder products to be removed as soon as possible.
Scoop and sweep all spilled materials to a dry container and dispose off safely.
If possible, hose away to the nearest drain with plenty of water and dry.
LIQUID PRODUCTS
Put sand around to avoid further spreading.
Remove the chemical soaked sand to a safe place.
Hose down to the nearest drain if possible or use appropriate ways to remove the chemical residue .
ACCIDENTAL DRINKING OF CHEMICALS
How is it be possible?
By improper decanting and handling
FIRST AID MEASURES
Accidental Drinking Drink milk Drink plenty of cold water. Rush the casualty for medical aid Take MSDS along with to show the doctor
Inhalation Bring the casualty to safe place from the danger zone.
Eye Wash with plenty of water –Eye wash station
Skin Wash under running water for 15 minutes & seek medical attention.
