NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY GOD HAS THE FINAL WORD
When I first moved to Los Angeles 26 years ago, I had “stars in my eyes”.
That’s what this couple I worked for in Chicago told me one day. They asked me what I wanted to do with my life and what were my goals for my future. When I told them I had a dream of being an actress and a model, they looked at me with pity and said, “Trisha, you have stars in your eyes. That will never happen honey so give up the dream.” Although their negative words were discouraging, less than a year later, God blessed me to be in Ebony and Jet magazine doing print work for Fashion Fair and Raveen which lasted for a span of ten years. Toward the end of that time period, I shot my first commercial with Lusters Hair products. Two years after getting with the Ebony/Jet family, I have crowned Miss Black Chicago in which I endured challenges through that process. I got on my knees and prayed the night before the pageant after being confronted and verbally attacked by one of the staff members who said, “You’re not going to win this pageant!”
After she left my hotel room, I fell to my knees in prayer with tears streaming down my face. The presence of the Lord entered the room. The entire room filled up with a love I had never felt before. It was so beautiful and intense and immediately my tears dried and I felt peace about the whole situation. The next day, even though things were intentionally done to hurt my performance, it didn’t matter. I still won. There was a spiritual intervention that took place that day because what God had for me was for me! Romans 8:31 -“If God is for us, who can be against us?” During my reign, I had the pleasure of speaking at schools all across Chicago and encouraging students to believe that they can do whatever they put their minds to.
