folder gluer. It will move the prefeeder currently operating at CBI to WTC, where it will be linked with a 66-inch by 140- inch LMC 2-color rotary die cutter, which will automate and upgrade that press and reduce labor costs by going from a 3-man to a 2-man crew. These can be differentiators for any box maker. Fewer Bottlenecks, More Surge In LA To resolve the bottlenecks due to the surge coming off its high-speed Bobst flexo, CBI is reconfiguring its mainline to change the direction of flow to go away from its flexos and toward its J&L. The flow will then wrap around and come back toward two turntables and a Mosca dual strap- ping system. Systec is supplying the turntables and new conveyor line. Systec’s service team was recently on site with Mosca personnel to tie the components together to ensure bot- tlenecks are eliminated and any issues are resolved. The full line should be operational by the end of September. A Trip To Tucson In 2012, Nick Widera wanted to take on more respon- sibilities and further hone his management skills. (With the re- tirement of John’s sister Christel, there was no longer a Widera family member working in management there.) “Nick had done a great job learning inside sales, but I
“We have a mini-flexo press there and we do a lot of mini glued die cut boxes and small RSCs, but now they must go through a hot melt gluer, which is a lot slower,” says Nick. “With the 130-inch J&L we’ll be able to open up more speed, capacity and enjoy again one- to two-day lead times, especially when it comes to doing our auto
lock bottom boxes and 4-corner trays. This will help our designer create a lot more customer products.” Continuing to leverage data and the benefits of its part- nership with suppliers, CBI is adding a brand new Alliance prefeeder to the new Bobst 66-inch by 145-inch inch flexo CB Group has leveraged its relationship with Alliance.
