but everything on the Bullis’ Firebird was available in 1973. The Firebird on fire features a Formula hood, the front ground effects from a Trans Am, and the side scoops and rear spoiler could have come on either car. The rear bumper has been cut, tucked and welded and the lighting was upgraded with LED tail- lights. Barry Marin then straightened everything out before he laid down the custom-mixed, four-stage Candy Red Pearl. They filled the interior with a Ring Brothers steering wheel, Dakota Digital gauges in a custom leather-covered dash, LED lighting, power windows, and a custom center console. Phil Hopkin’s Shopworks stitched the black leather interior over
the stock seats and everywhere else. Street rodding is simply making hot rods nice enough to drive cross country, to drive to the gro- cery store, and to drive to all local events. You can only do so much with an early roadster (short of win- dows), but a hot rod like Sue Bullis’ sweet ’73 Pontiac Firebird coupe can now really do it all. The LT4 puts out 650 horses, but idles down the road and delivers close to 20 mpg, the suspension works no matter what you are doing, the interior is comfy, accurate and well laid out. Everything is just where you need it, when you need it, and you can’t stop putting down the miles! JULY 2026 55
