January 25 at the Legion Hall/Lion’s Den in Russell and installed their new executive as well as presented awards to volunteers. Gord Sheldrick is president, Bert Vedder, past-president, John Hinkling first vice- president, Ina Henry, homecraft representa- tive, Allan Anderson, secretary, and Francois
Bourgeois, treasurer. The contributions to the society and to the annual Russell Fair made by several former fair board members was also recog- nized at the AGM. The Agricultural Service Award was given to Ken and Bev McLean for their contributions from 1992-99. The Keith Dugdale Memorial Award for field crop competition was given to Robert Hamilton. The Hank Staal Memorial Award for com-
mercial crop competition, which was given the first time this year, was awarded to Rudy Schoeni. The society’s next big event is the annual Ladies’ Night, a much-anticipated charity fundraiser featuring a catered dinner, plen- ty of games, auctions, and dance at which only women get to have fun (any men there are working), will be Friday, May 3.
