Anchor Environmental Sustainability & Net Zero Carbon Strategy 2023 – 2026
• Positive use of circulation space • Shared facilities and 'hubs'
• Plants, trees, and the natural environment • Energy efficiency and sustainable design • Storage for belongings and bicycles • External shared surfaces and 'home zones'
Our design specifications, expert engagement and resident involvement in the design process aim to support a healthy, active, and sustainable lifestyle, including reducing loneliness and isolation for older people. In regeneration projects and in building new homes, we will seek to engage residents in developing spaces which maximise wellbeing and support them in living independently and meet ageing well measures. As well as meeting improved energy efficiency measures, new homes will need to reflect sustainable transport strategies in building and scheme design in order to make sustainable transport choices accessible, and to reduce car use where feasible. This includes supporting residents in switching to less polluting vehicles such as electric vehicles through providing charging points. As with existing homes, the design of green spaces and community spaces will seek to encourage and support an active life, social interaction and access to engaging with more biodiverse green spaces. We will consider the design lessons which can be learned from schemes where green spaces and active travel are most successful. We will: • Ensure our new homes support healthy, active, and sustainable lifestyles, including reducing loneliness and isolation for older people. • Engage residents in developing spaces which maximise wellbeing and support them in living independently and meet ageing well measures. • Meet increasingly high energy efficiency standards to support improved thermal comfort and air quality in the home
• Support sustainable transport options for residents • Enhance the biodiversity of our locations and spaces.
