works, controlling legionella and other bacteriological growth, the company quickly progressed into renewables, medical gas and specialist gases. C A Services provides medical gas and water hygiene services for a number of healthcare trusts in Northern Ireland, as well as private clients and large construction firms. Providing 24/7 emergency cover, the firm delivers installation, maintenance, remedial and reactive work across all sectors. Supporting private, commercial, and industrial customers with any work required, all works are carried out to the highest standards, at very competitive prices. Such has been the success of its medical gas work, the company opened a new Sheffield office with a team of four in April 2025 to provide the service in GB. Today, Alan continues to lead the business as managing director and Claire looks after financial operations. They are supported by three divisional heads, contract managers Jason Selfridge

and Kyle Sinclair and office manager Janice Mehaffey, along with a team of office staff, apprentices and around 30 engineers. Kyle, who started out as a plumber and has been with the firm for nearly 10 years, is contract manager for medical gas. “A lot of our success and progression is down to Alan Poots himself,” says Kyle. “He is very driven and proactive and always wanting to go further. C A Services is now recognised as the primary medical gas service provider in Northern Ireland. We have a very good team with combined experience of over 150 years, which gives our clients confidence. Also with the company for 10 years, Jason is contract manager for water hygiene and led the introduction of a very successful secondary disinfection unit for killing legionella throughout the Belfast Trust. C A Services offers risk assessments, as well as live monitoring of water hygiene through its digital platforms, for healthcare trusts and smaller

businesses such as dentists, delivering vital accountability and legal protection around patient safety. Kyle says, “These are our trusts, which we and our children use, and there’s something a bit satisfying in knowing that the delivery of the medical gas and water hygiene is as good as it can be. We believe if the quality is there, everything else follows on behind and we’d rather not take something on if the client is going to be pushing for shortcuts or we feel we can’t deliver it feasibly without a drop off in quality.” While C A Services currently employs four apprentices, Alan fears for the future of the industry with companies facing unsustainable increases in the minimum wage and a lack of government support. However, “We have a big mixture of skillsets and pride ourselves on training,” he says. “If you’re keen to develop, we can offer a career path through NVQ 2 and 3 and specialised training in water hygiene or medical gas. I see the benefits of keeping people interested.”
