PLUMBING AND HEATING PROFESSIONALS ARE KEY TO REDUCING HOUSEHOLD ENERGY COSTS, FROM UPGRADING OLDER SYSTEMS TO SUPPORTING THE ROLLOUT OF RENEWABLES… APCHI supports Ireland’s energy transition

David Gilroy, APHCI CEO.

As Ireland works towards its climate and energy targets, the plumbing and heating sector has a critical role to play in helping homeowners reduce energy consumption and lower household bills. According to the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), residential heating accounts for a significant proportion of energy use in Irish homes, making heating system efficiency one of the most effective ways to reduce both costs and carbon emissions. From upgrading older systems and improving controls to supporting the rollout of renewable heating technologies, plumbing and heating professionals are at the forefront of delivering practical energy savings for households. The sector’s role extends far beyond installation. Every day, contractors and installers act as

trusted advisors, helping homeowners make informed decisions about energy efficiency, comfort and long-term running costs. Through its sustainability programme, industry training, technical guidance and advocacy work, the Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors Ireland (APHCI) continues to champion the role of the sector in delivering Ireland’s energy transition. “Plumbing and heating contractors are on the frontline of Ireland’s energy transition,” said APHCI CEO David Gilroy. “Every day, our members help homeowners improve energy efficiency, reduce heating costs and make better-informed decisions about the future of their homes. If Ireland is serious about reducing energy demand and meeting its climate targets, then investing in the skills, knowledge and professionalism of our sector must be part of the solution.”

“APHCI is also preparing to launch a major new initiative designed to support members and the wider industry in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by Ireland’s low-carbon future.”

APHCI believes that a properly informed and educated workforce is one of the most valuable assets available in reducing energy demand, cutting emissions and improving the energy performance of Irish homes. As demand for energy-efficient heating systems and renewable technologies continues to grow, APHCI is committed to ensuring that contractors and installers have access to the latest technical knowledge, best practice and professional development opportunities. Building on its sectoral leadership, APHCI is also preparing to launch a major new initiative designed to support members

and the wider industry in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by Ireland’s low-carbon future. While details remain under wraps for now, the initiative is expected to further strengthen the sector’s capacity to deliver warmer homes, lower energy bills and meaningful carbon reductions for households across Ireland.
