HEAT PUMPS

RVR ENERGY TECHNOLOGY’S QUANTIX MONOBLOC RANGE IS COMPLIANT WITH EU REFRIGERANT REQUIREMENTS COMING INTO FORCE IN JANUARY 2027… Refrigerant transition-ready

With SEAI’s 2026 heat pump grant now reaching up to €12,500 per installation, the pipeline for Irish installers has never looked stronger. But as demand accelerates, a more fundamental question is being quietly overlooked: what refrigerant is inside the systems being specified today? From January 1, 2027 - five months from now - EU regulation bans the sale of heat pumps using refrigerants with a Global Warming Potential above 150. That ruling effectively ends R32 across the entire residential range. R32, still the most common refrigerant in heat pumps sold in Ireland today, carries a GWP of 675. R290 - propane - is a natural refrigerant with a GWP of just 0.02. Systems being commissioned this year will still be in service in 2040. The legislation is already written. The question is whether the industry is getting ahead of it or waiting to be caught out.

RVR has been working in Ireland’s renewable energy sector for over 40 years. Developing the Quantix S range of monobloc heat pumps, RVR didn’t start with an existing European product and adapt it but rather built the range around Ireland’s specific conditions - the housing stock, the climate and the dual challenge of new builds and retrofits. For new builds, the Quantix S is fully Part L-compliant and integrates cleanly with underfloor heating and PV systems. For retrofits - where most of Ireland’s challenge lies - it delivers flow temperatures up to 75°C, making it compatible with existing radiator systems without the costly upgrades that rule out so many heat pump installations. The pre-packaged 180L DHW and 60L buffer cylinder was sized specifically for typical Irish homes, operating reliably down to -20°C. Ireland’s heating transition needs
