QUB - ADVANCED MANUFACTURING INNOVATION CENTRE PROJECT PROFILE
“The scheme demonstrates Stothers’ capability to successfully deliver complex, technically demanding large- scale projects to the highest standards of quality, coordination and engineering excellence.”
and oxygen - along with compressed air distribution and local exhaust ventilation systems for point‑source fume extraction. Domestic water services feature boosted cold water, hot water and hot water return systems, serving all sanitary and support areas throughout the facility. Stothers (M&E) also liaised with clean room specialists to install MEP-associated services. A key technical challenge involved the coordination and integration of mechanical building services within walk-on ceiling voids serving laboratory and cleanroom environments, in conjunction with exposed service installations and gantry support systems. Successful delivery required detailed spatial coordination, rigorous planning and multidisciplinary interface management to maintain service accessibility, regulatory compliance and operational performance requirements, all while preventing compromise to the architectural and engineering design intent. Another significant challenge involved the design, development and procurement of bespoke roof-mounted air-handling units (AHUs). Based on the initial performance specification and operational design criteria, Stothers (M&E) collaborated
extensively with the project design team and specialist supply chain partners to engineer a fully-tailored solution. The AHUs were developed to achieve full compatibility and seamless integration with the Sintra ductwork distribution system serving the engineering hall, while satisfying the required airflow, pressure and environmental performance parameters. Michael Farrell, Director, says, “This project represents a significant milestone within Stothers’ portfolio and has been successfully delivered in partnership with Henry Brothers and Queen’s University Belfast, both of whom are highly valued long-term clients. The scheme demonstrates Stothers’ capability to successfully deliver complex, technically demanding large-scale projects to the highest standards of quality, coordination and engineering excellence.” Don Monaghan, Managing Director, says, “I’d like to thank the entire team for their hard work and commitment throughout the project. It has been a pleasure working alongside the client and main contractor to successfully deliver and hand over the project. We are looking forward to working together again on future projects.”
