ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS Geraldine High School had three players agree to continue their athletic careers at Snead State Community College on January 26, 2022. Jaden Dismuke and Lilly Rowell both signed volleyball scholarships with the Lady Parsons. Lydia West signed a softball scholarship with Snead State. BOAZ FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIPS Boaz High School Senior JaQuez Kelly has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at Huntington College in Montgomery. Boaz Teammate Carter Lambert signed with Berry College. BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIPS Section's Logan Patterson recently signed a basketball scholarship with Maryville College in Tennessee. Ider Varsity Girls Star Savannah "Chick" Seals recently signed to play basketball at Gadsden State. SPORTS HOF SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The DeKalb County Sports HOF will be expanding their Student Scholarship Program for this school year by adding two additional scholarships for a total of four. The value is also increasing from $1,000.00 plus to $1,500.00 plus. The scholarships are funded by the HOF Board members, HOF alumni and special assistance from Senator Steve Livingston and Representative Nathaniel Ledbetter. Any student athlete senior in DeKalb County is eligible for the scholarship. They must be nominated by their school to be considered. Since we began the program two years ago the HOF has awarded $8,000.00 in scholarship money to DeKalb County Student Athletes. FRIDAY NIGHT COLLEGE LIGHTS The 2022 Florida Gators vs Florida State College Football match-up is set for the evening of Friday, November 25 on primetime television at Bobby Bowden Field at Doak S. Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. The television rights to FSU home games are governed by ACC media agreements. The 2023 match-up in Gainesville, controlled by SEC television contracts, will return to the Saturday following Thanksgiving. The last regular season match-up featuring the Gators not played on a Saturday was at Mississippi State on Thursday, Oct. 1, 1992. The date will also be the first regular-season Friday evening game for the Gators since 1961 when they defeated Tulane 14-3 in New Orleans. CROSSVILLE COACHES Crossville High School recently announced the addition of two new assistant football coaches. Deondre Woody and Jordan Pannell will be joining the Lions coaching staff. Woody will be Crossville's Co-Defensive Coordinator and Pannell will be the Lions' Receivers Coach. BYU SOFTBALL Scottsboro Senior Lexie Bennett has committed to continue her softball career at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Utah. Sports Spotlight

Geraldine's Lilly Rowell signed a Volleyball scholarship on January 26 to continue her career at Snead State Community College. Lilly was honored by being one of the top 25 players in the state of Alabama by AL.com. She was a member of the Super All-State Team in 2021 and she was included in the 2021 Alabama High School Athletic Association volleyball records. Rowell ended her senior season at Geraldine with 621 kills, 589 digs, and 72 aces, and during her four years on the varsity team at GHS she had 1,182 digs on defense and 177 aces. She was a member and key player on the 2019 Super Region Champion team, as well as a member and key player on the 2019 state runner-up team at Geraldine. She also helped the Lady Bulldogs reach the state quarterfinal round in 2021. Albertville's Givenchy Dorival (#1) attempts a layup for the Aggies during the championship game of the 2022 Marshall County Basketball Tournament. Following a back and forthbattle throughout the game, the Aggies found themselves down by only two points in the final seconds. Guntersville had the opportunity to seal the win, but a missed foul shot gave the Aggies hope. Albertville quickly moved down the count and attempted a basket, but missed. However, the Aggies grabbed the offensive rebound and this time made the basket to tie the game 64-64 with only 6 seconds left in regulation. A foul on the play sent the Aggies to the charity stripe, where Isaac Henderson completed the three point play to lift the Aggies to the thrilling 65-64 victory. The Aggies went on to finish the season at 14-15 overall, following a 65-49 loss to Huntsville in the opening round of the Class 7A Area 7 Tournament. Photo by Brandon K. Plainview's Sawyer Kate Hulgan took time to pose for a photo with her father Brett Hulgan following the 2022 DeKalb County Basketball Tournament in Rainsville. Hulgan scored 31 points to help lead the Plainview Varsity Girls to a 64-58 win over Ider in the County Championship game. For her efforts, Sawyer Kate was named the tournament's MVP. The Albertville varsity girls basketball team posed for a group picture following the 2022 Marshall County Tournament. The Lady Aggies placed second in the tournament after losing to Boaz 49-34 in the championship game. The varsity girls went on to finish the season at 14-10 overall, following a 45-40 loss to Huntsville in the opening round of the Class 7A Area 7 Tournament. The players this season include: (Front L-R) Caroline Thomas (#20), Jaden Smith (#33), and Evie Smart (#14); (Back L-R) Ava Teague (#34), Sierra Harris (#50), Sarah Rutledge (#11), Emma Greer (#12), Molly Morrison (#22), Ella Smart (#21), and Head Coach Matt Nelson.
