Vilanova (olive, ochre and basalto) , 2023 MDF, eggshell Each 40 × 40 × 15 cm

Juliano Cordano is an award-winning multidisciplinary contemporary artist whose practice reflects his expertise in architecture, interior and furniture design. Cordano’s art, shaped by a creative upbringing in an untraditional Brazilian family, blurs the line between architecture and visual expression. Fundamentally inspired by shapes, shadows and the precise detail of architecture, his work demonstrates a deep understanding of the hard yet fluid forms of built structures and their impact on daily life. His practice is rooted in architectural and design training, enriched by diverse lived experiences across cultures, geographies and socio-political contexts that shape perception.

Artwork Introduction

Vilanova is inspired by the bold forms of Brazilian Brutalist architecture from the 1960s in the State of São Paulo. The collection takes its name as a tribute to João Batista Vilanova Artigas, one of the most influential architects of this era. Rooted in Cordano’s exploration of architecture and design, Vilanova celebrates the beauty of simple, geometric shapes and the way their shadows carve out space, reflecting the profound connection between form, light and structure.
