Kohlben Vodden is a British-Australian avant-garde artist based in London whose work bridges philosophy, psychology and material experimentation. His practice has evolved from early abstracted figurative oil paintings into conceptual works crafted with dyed resin on mirrored and reflective surfaces. These pieces invite viewers to see abstracted versions of themselves within shifting fields of light and colour, transforming universal ideas into immersive visual experiences.
Artwork Introduction
This series is created in dyed resin on mirrored surfaces. The works shift and refract as viewers move, making perception itself unstable.
Acceptance Experiment manifests as a golden amber tone, with an ochre base representing harmony and grounding. Over this foundation, vibrant reds and yellows emerge, forming warm, freeing hues that evoke comfort, renewal and the peaceful joy of embracing change. These luminous hues offer nourishment and vitality, like sunlight warming the journey towards acceptance. Courage Experiment radiates a fiery warmth, its copper-red surface alive with shifting light. Beneath this glow lies a layered construction of orange, cool red, and warm red resins, each stratum embodying a different aspect of the courageous act: the spark of motivation, the shadow of fear, and the enduring strength that follows choice. Self-Mastery Experiment explores the delicate balance between control and surrender, examining how emotions such as anger, fear, desire or doubt can dictate our actions if left unchecked. To master the self is not to suppress emotion, but to hold it without being held by it, to feel deeply yet remain sovereign over one’s response.
