Shelley Thornton
ge.germanium Shiqing Ge
Shu-Han Yang works with traditional painting in a contemporary context. Under the creative identity Stranger Introvert, Yang develops a theatrical visual symbol system, Territory, to construct inclusive spaces where creator and viewers engage in three-way dialogue. The practice focuses on the life force in bodies and environments, examining the picture plane beyond flatness through spotlight compositional techniques. Texture transforms everyday Taiwanese objects and scenes into symbolic codes exploring trust, kinship, mortality and culture. The paintings expand when installed, inviting collective engagement that mirrors the tension between intimacy and openness. Spotlight compositions highlight symbols while leaving raw canvas for projection and interpretation, creating space for undefined voices. Each piece integrates QR codes for digital interaction, inviting audio or video responses.
Shelley Thornton, born in Yorkshire, is a painter based in Cornwall, where the quality of light and coastal landscapes influence Thornton’s practice. Thornton’s work combines northern industrial imagery with urban and coastal scenes, blending textures, bold colour, and lyrical elements to capture moments of life and emotion. It’s a Thin Line 3 that layers visceral intensity in a meditation on the emotional spectrum embodied by red, where love, passion, hope and anger bleed into one another with deliberate ambiguity. The upper block expands like a declaration of compassion over cruelty, unity over division, while the lower anchors the composition with quiet tension. Reclaimed materials add memory and history, grounding abstraction in the tangible and evoking fragile connections.
Shiqing Ge is a multidisciplinary interaction designer. Ge’s practice addresses sustainability, de-anthropocentrism, identity, and feminism, combining aesthetics with functionality. Through interactive design, Ge engages audiences as co-creators, fostering reflection on societal issues and critical storytelling. Echoes of the Body is a critical design work examining how digital identities are built from medical data. At its centre, a desktop film documents experiments with open- source medical platforms and AI tools, layering medical imagery with screen recordings of live interaction. The interplay between digital representation and physical gesture exposes tensions between embodiment and abstraction, turning data manipulation into a critique of identity in the digital age.
shooqalshawi Shooq AlShawi
Shooq AlShawi is a London-based painter working with oil and oil stick on canvas. AlShawi’s practice spans large-scale immersive paintings and smaller intimate works, exploring gesture, layering, and repetition. Forms often dissolve into abstraction, reflecting meditations on existence, spirituality, and faith, balancing chaos and harmony while creating spaces for reflection and presence. An unravelling surrender to the feeling of existence through faith, of what lies beyond. Faith is beautiful for those who believe, an invitation to trust in the unknown.
