Zhongyu Hu

zhuyangleiu Zhuyang Liu

zhenzhen.ma.18 Zhenzhen Ma

Zhongyu Hu’s practice combines the expressive aesthetics of Chinese ink landscape painting with the compositional techniques of the Russian academic tradition. Through this synthesis, Hu seeks to merge Eastern and Western cultural sensibilities and philosophies, exploring new possibilities for the evolution of traditional Chinese landscape painting. Hu’s work aims to challenge conventional methods while preserving their essence. Xueyuan Proud Bones presents a silent resistance to digital saturation by using ink, charcoal and paper to question the nature of permanence and truth. Flowing ink evokes the spirit of traditional Chinese aesthetics, while charcoal adds a raw tension between civilisation and primal energy. The work seeks strength not through monumentality, but through enduring spirit beneath fragile surfaces.

Zhuyang Liu is a multi-disciplinary artist and sound practitioner whose work spans installation, performance, moving image, and writing. Exploring intersections of identity, labour, technology, and the body, Liu constructs immersive narratives marked by dark humour and absurdity. Liu’s projects probe translation, cultural capital, and institutional systems, situating sound as both material and critical inquiry. HELMETING is an evolving conceptual project centred on a kinetic, wearable sound-sculpture. This produces a monophonic listening chamber requiring collaborative use, prompting reflection on auditory intimacy and bodily autonomy. A later film installation expanded the project into public interventions, with performers wearing the helmets in public spaces. These staged actions disrupt conventional experience and propose speculative forms of social exchange.

Zhenzhen Ma is a London-based artist. Working primarily with painting, Ma records and reflects on life through depictions of women. Ma’s works avoid transitional references or backgrounds, focusing instead on states and thoughts within women’s lives. Through this approach, the figures become a warm force within the paintings, conveying a belief that love, and freedom arises from time spent with oneself. Solo in the Fields portrays a dialogue between the soul and the land. A solitary figure plays the violin in an open field as blue flowers bloom from the music—visible traces of inner joy. The painting reflects on the harmony between nature and self, presenting solitude not as absence, but as a space where quiet fulfilment takes root and flourishes.

Zhaojuan Sun

Zhaojuan Sun is a painter whose work explores the union of perception and imagination. After earlier studies in Economics and Finance, Sun turned to art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2016. Sun’s cross-cultural background informs a practice rooted in sensitivity to cultural dialogue, where painting becomes a space for reconciling lived experience with imaginative vision.
