2019 Youth Player Development Award

From 2005 to 2018 the golf lesson structure at SOCC was like most clubs, private lessons with a PGA Professional in addition to some complimentary teaching programs and clinics, consisting mainly of women and beginners. Also we had ladies team play clinics during the team play season. All of the clinics were at no charge and were part of being an equity member. We offered a year-round golf program for junior golfers for a small fee on Thursdays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Our junior program included a league for juniors called the ‘Milkshake League’ which consists of nine-holes weekly with the PGA Professionals during the summer months. This junior event was free to our member’s children and became a huge success for us! We were told “We have the best milkshakes in the county!” On Wednesdays at 4pm throughout the year, our junior ‘loopers’ play 4-holes on a part of the course called the Loop. This is a playing lesson with the pros that encourages etiquette, ready golf and proper golf protocol. This is after school fun for the kids and they get a little fitness and golf practice. In 2006, we had only three juniors in our Junior Club Championship. This is when we started the work of improving our junior golf offerings. The goal was to grow our club with
