Impact of experience on your academic journey/career goal My aspiration to become a pediatrician has survived the seemingly insurmountable doubts that life has brought my way. In the medical field, there is a saying: “the learning never stops.” This research has given me a deeper understanding of what it truly means to live a life of continuous learning -- a life that I genuinely enjoy.

Description of your 2025 summer internship/research duties

I performed analysis of the effects of radiation on soils - specifically, why materials activate when exposed to short, high intensity radiation (simulated nuclear dedonation, nuclear reactor) Host company/institution Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s Air Force Institute of Technology.

I analyzed the intricate relationship between mite-biting behavior and flight performance in honey bees (Apis mellifera). The second portion of my experiment was conducted, which involved the collection and evaluation of high– and low-mite-biting honeybees to compare flight distance, duration, and velocity. Host company/institution Central State University’s Honey Bee Research Lab

Lessons learned

I learned that “the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.” Research is not always a one-way street; it is a multifaceted highway that holds roadblocks, stop signs, and roundabouts. The need for modification is not proof of failure, but an indication of scientific rigor and deep understanding.
