we claimed more and more according to the need, or the demands upon us, so that “our latter.end may be more blessed than the beginning.” At the same time we learn to watch more carefully those treacherous “junc tions,” in passing which the trolley is likely to “skip” and “jump the wire,” — to “watch and pray that we enter not into temptation,” seeing that while “the spirit may be willing, the flesh is weak.” Ah! how close to real life and ex perience the above picture to which the Spirit directs our attention! May we learn its lesson-—for ourselves first, and also for others— to His glory al ways ! Amen!
or will-power, to push the car into motion again. In vain we call for help. The one thing that is wrong must be set right. That “slip” must be recovered. The trolley must be re placed, the contact restored, the cir cuit re-established. Often it is not easy to do this! We “cannot find the wire.” We have be come bewildered, confused, nervous, out of sorts. The storm of evil does not contribute to our success. Now and then we almost succeed: and as we “touch,” the old light flashes for a moment;-—but only for a moment. When at last we are wearied with striving and waiting, we hear: “Let him lay hold of my strength and he at peace!” “Be strong in the Lord, and
in the power of his might!” We are taught the secret of recovered “touch” with Jesus,—whose power, as the great spiritual dynamo (see the Greek of Phil. 4 :1 3 ), has been undiminished, and the broken circuit is re-estab lished. Then we learn that even as “a very little thing” could break the circuit, and cause us to lose all the light and joy and power and efficiency, even so the merest touch of real contact with Jesus once accomplished, all would be instantly restored. “I will restore un to you the years that the locust hath eaten” (Joel 2 :2 5 ). The former light would shine with even increased splen dor,-^the power regained would prove ample to recover the ground lost, as
The Angelic Song Dr. W. H. Rawlings Dr. Rawlings, for many years one of the leading preachers and Bible teachers of London, is now a resident of Southern California, having been compelled because of ill health brought on by his strenuous labors in the ministry, to retire from active service. We greatly appreciate this beautiful contribution from him for this Christmas Number of The King’s Business.

SlSThy people praise Thee! Thou glorious Star of day. Arise, and with Thy morning beams chase all earth’s griefs away.” Blessed be God, at the appointed time, and in perfect accord with type, symbol and prophecy, the long promised Redeemer came, the Saviour, even Christ the Lord. The pent up cry coming from the heart of humanity, is for peace, rest, joy; and the great heart of. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, because none other could fill the vacuum in the human breast. Thanks be unto God, the blessed Saviour can and does comfort, cheer, bless, and save to the uttermost all that come unto God by Him, and ever be it remembered the Saviour is God Himself, who without abhoring the virgin’s womb, was born by miraculous birth, thus taking human nature, thereby fulfilling the great prophecy of the ages (Gen. 3 :1 5 ), that the seed of woman should bruise the serpent’s head. None but the blessed One who knew no human father, even the Anointed One, Christ the Lord, could fulfill this inspired prophecy; and thanks be unto God, this sinless, spot less, seed of the woman, in literal ful fillment of the Word of God, came at
the time appointed for man’s deliver ance from the law of sin and death. And now for two thousand years, the resplendent fruit of this first Advent has encompassed the world with its beneficence wherever the Worthy Ñame is known throughout the earth; there, the fragrance and splendor of His Saviourship is discovered. Righteous laws, human sympathies, houses of refuge for the aged and or phans, hospitals for the sick and in firm, abounding charities for the needy and the oppressed, comfort for the sor rowing, cheer for the despondent and sad; these, and all such ministries of grace, emanate from the great, pulsat ing heart of God, who gave us the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by His birth and life, His death and passion, as also by His resurrection, ascension, and com ing again, seeks only the blessing of men. Well and fitting is it, then, that sensible minds and grateful hearts join in the acclaim of the angelic hosts, “Glory to God in the Highest!”
joy was heralded at the birth of Christ. Then suddenly, the great multitude of the angelic host brake forth into praise saying, /‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Saviour, which is Christ, the Lord.” Read the inspired record in the second chapter of the Gospel according to the evange list, Luke. And now, on this, another anniver sary of that wondrous birth, we exclaim, “All hail to Thee, Immanuel! Thou Lord of Life! Thou King of Glory! the unnumbered host of heaven hail Thee. Ten thousand times ten thou sand of the redeemed throughput the earth join in the glad acclaim, and hail Thee, Thou Glorious Prince of Peace.” “Once in the end of the age, Thou didst appear to put away sin by the sacrifice of Thygelf; now amidst the shining myriads in glory, Thou dost appear on behalf of Thy people, as their blessed Advocate. Yes, and blessed by Thy name, Thou are due to appear the second time apart from, or with no relation to, sin.” (See last verses of Hebrews 9.)
Hail to the Lord’s Anointed, Great David’s greater Son! Who, in the time appointed, His reign on earth begun; He comes to break oppression, To set the captive free; To take away transgression, And rule in equity.
