10 Household uses for Hydrogen Peroxide
1. Clean your cutting board & countertop. Add hydrogen peroxide to opaque spray bottle (exposure to light kills its e ff ectiveness) spray onto surfaces. Allow bubbles to form for a few minutes and then scrub, rinse clean. 2. Wipe out your refrigerator and dishwasher. Because it is non-toxic, hydrogen peroxide is great at disinfecting places that store food and dishes. Just spray inside and out, let the solution sit for 5 - 10 minutes, then wipe clean. 3. Clean your sponges. Soak for 10 minutes in a 50/50 mixture of peroxide & warm water. Rinse the sponges thoroughly. 4. Remove baked on crud from pots & pans. Combine peroxide with enough baking soda to form a paste, rub onto your pans & let sit (do this as you wash the dishes). Allow it to bubble. Come back later with an abrasive scrubby or brush and wash with warm water. 5. Whiten bath tub grout. First make sure grout is dry from any moisture, Spray liberally with peroxide. Let sit - scrub the grout with an old toothbrush. Repeat until all mildew is removed. 6. Disinfect & Clean your toilet bowl. Pour 1/2 cup of peroxide into the toilet bowl & let stand overnight if possible. If not let stand for 20 minutes at least, while waiting spray the toilet seat and then scrub clean. 7. Remove stains from clothing, tablecloths, sheets, curtains, etc. Peroxide can be used as a pre-treater for stains. Let soak before tossing into washer. You can also add a cup of peroxide to a regular load of clothing to boost brightness and disinfect. 8. Brighten dingy fl oors. Combine 1/2 cup of peroxide with one gallon of hot water. Mop as usual. This recipe is mild enough to use on any type of fl ooring. No need to rinse 9. Disinfect & Clean Children’s Toys & Play Areas. Peroxide is safe to use around children. As well as anyone with respiratory problems. It will not irritate the lungs. Fill an opaque Spray bottle with peroxide & use to spray toys, doorknobs, high chairs, counters, toy boxes & anything else your child touches on a regular basis. You can also soak a rag into peroxide and use as a disinfecting wipe. 10. To help ward o ff fungus from your plants. Add a little peroxide to your spray bottle the next time you are misting your lovely plants. Use 1/2 cup of peroxide to one gallon of water for your plants.
