We sincerely thank Clearcreek Township and the Hoffmann Family for their generous and unwavering support of disc golf in our community . unwavering support of disc golf in our community.
William "Bill" Hoffmann, was born in Lebanon, Ohio on November 15, 1927. He was a 1946 graduate of Springboro H.S. Bill attended the University of Dayton then joined the Merchant Marines Academy where he earned his BA and received his MA from Wright State University. Bill worked as a seaman on a merchant ship before teaching science and physics in the Dayton Public School Systems. Bill passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 at the age of 88. The History of Echo Valley
From humble beginnings to a haven for disc golfers:
In the early 2000s, Echo Valley started down a long gravel road and a rental. Disc golfer Daniel Gompf #4435 stumbled upon a quiet property near a cemetery on State Route 48. It was there that he met Bill Hoffmann and shared his interest in disc golf. Bill, enthusiastic about the idea, allowed Dan to partner with Tony "H2O" Waterfall in to make Echo Valley a reality if only for a few times a year.
For years, access to the course was limited only available with H2O’s baskets, making tee times a coveted treasure. The dream of playing Echo Valley whenever golfers desired was constant.
Local legend suggests Bill secured the land's transfer to Clearcreek Township on the condition of a permanent disc golf course. Regardless of its truth, the sentiment reflects Bill's appreciation for the sport. He loved when we would come out to play, even lending equipment to clear fairways, his enjoyment of the disc golf community was awesome.
In 2019 with the help of another local legend Carl Chiles Echo Valley began to come to life.
Clearcreek Township's efforts to meticulously prepare the course, including letting the land rest for a year, laid the groundwork for the Echo Valley we know today. The unique mix of woods with beautiful green fairways. Finally, in 2021,
the course became permanently installed. As of 2024, UDisc ranks Echo Valley as 50th best course in the world and #1 course in Ohio. This wouldn't be possible without the contributions of everyone involved – those who played, volunteered, and dreamt of making Echo Valley a reality. Thanks for playing.
Hoffmann Reserve A tribute to Otto and Charlotte Hoffmann. German immigrants who in 1925 made Warren County their home and source of livelihood, Otto was a prolific builder of quality homes. Charlotte involved with animal husbandry and produce. Both contributed to the welfare of our community. With respect and love, Bill Deanna and Karen

Running events at Echo Valley, one of the top 50 courses in the country is a true honor, and it’s a home course I’m proud to call my own. This special place wouldn’t exist without the dedication of many, especially Clearcreek Township and the Hoffmann family, whose generosity and support made this course possible. From its humble beginnings as a rental on a quiet gravel road, to the permanent, meticulously maintained course it is today, Echo Valley has grown into a beloved haven for disc golfers. The difference between a top 50 course and hundreds of others? Well that’s Carl Chiles. His tireless work, love for the game, and passion for this course have made all the difference, turning our course into #1 in Ohio. Thanks to everyone who’s played, volunteered, and dreamed alongside us, your dedication keeps Echo Valley thriving and growing. Thank You to Everyone at the Echo Valley Open ! The OB line has no thickness. This means your disc must have some part touching the green on the inbound side of the line. If your disc is only touching the white of the line, you are out.
Our community was recently saddened by the loss of fellow golfer Clinton Pelfrey. Clinton was a dedicated father, husband, and a major contributor to Paint Creek Disc Golf Course—a genuinely good guy. Though I only knew him casually, the outpouring of support and grief on social media shows what a remarkable person he was. To honor Clinton, we’ll be running a 50/50 throw-off at this weekend’s event—one each day at the Hazy Shade tent. Throws are $5 each, with half the proceeds going directly to his wife, Sara. If you’d like to donate directly or through their GoFundMe, we’re here to help. We hope you’ll join us in showing how strong our community can be when we come together to support one another.
