What makes Made by the Forge such an interesting local business? I have admired how Richard and Juliet have taken a very traditional skill and embraced a very modern way of taking their product to market through e-commerce and social media. They have developed an authentic brand and given a young business a feeling of heritage. Are there any differences to giving advice for creative businesses compared to office-based companies? The starting point of giving advice is to understand the business and discuss the owners objectives. The dynamics of a manufacturing, retail or service based business are different but what is key is the measurement of results and devising strategies to mitigate tax and enhance business performance. How have Scrutton Bland been able to help? I label myself a critical friend. It is my role to challenge my clients but support them to achieve their goals. Setting up a business from scratch can be daunting, balancing risk against an unknown outcome. Richard and Juliet have had ups and downs building such a successful business but I believe my team have provided reassurance when needed and challenged them in their decision making to position their business as one with immense potential. I am proud to have been on their journey to date and look forward to celebrating their continued success.
