Upgrading your professional insurance cover

Most Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance policies will give you some protection against the loss of client monies held by you in a client account should you fall foul of a vishing attack. However, a PI policy may not always cover your business’ own funds in this circumstance. When you consider the effects of this crime on you, your business and its reputation, it may well be prudent to take out additional Commercial Crime insurance cover to give an extra level of protection for your firm’s own monies in the event of cyber theft or vishing attack on your office or business accounts. There are a number of products on the market which offer this additional cover and your insurance broker will be able to explain these to you.

What should you do if you think you are being ‘vished’

It's all too easy to fall for these scams, but if you do receive a phone call that sets alarm bells ringing or makes you feel uncomfortable, remember:

n Be suspicious and don’t feel embarrassed to ask probing questions

n Never let the caller take control of your computer remotely

n Tell the caller you need to make some checks and hang up
