Wirral and Cheshire CPEP case studies 2020 - 2021

Challenges

Reduced staffing and remote working for the PracticeEducation Facilitation team during the pandemic.

Key Learning

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on how services have been delivered in the Trust and how we provide and support learners accessing our placements. However, these challenges have supported the adoption of new ways of working which enhance the quality of the learning environment.

Delivery of blended learning approaches to training for practice assessors, supervisors and student have made education and training more accessible.

Using IT resources to support practice learning requires an administrative infrastructure and support to manage new systems and processes established.

Engaging teams in the development of new placements and new systems and processes supports the creation of a shared vision.

Sustainability

We will be recruiting a practice education administrator role and additional Practice Educator Facitlitor time.

This will support the Trust to:

• Manage systems and processes relating to IT provision to learners

• Increase the numbers of Practice Assessors to support an increase of placement capacity going forward, but also to improve confidence and competence of current assessors and supervisors.

• Through staff and learner engagement, identify continued barriers to placement provision and capacity expansion and explore creative ideas and solutions to establish new ways of working.

• Through a new process, the Trust’s Director of Nursing will review and approve/ approver requests for changes to service agreed placemnt capacity.
