WHAT IS THE POWER FUND?
Launched in 2020, The Power Fund addresses a critical funding disparity between philanthropic organizations and nonprofit leaders of color who run New York City-based organizations aligned with Robin Hood’s mission. Power Fund leaders bring perspective, proximity, and expertise to Robin Hood’s fight against poverty. In creating the Power Fund, Robin Hood sought to:
Increase Robin Hood’s funding to New York organizations led by people of color who share our mission of elevating New Yorkers out of poverty while championing racial and economic injustice.
Expand the reach and impact of our grantmaking into communities we have not served historically, enabling us to reach new populations struggling with living in poverty.
Center proximity to the communities we fund and prioritizing funding that empowers community leaders while inspiring innovation.
Spark the integration of a racial justice lens in all of Robin Hood’s work.
Elevate nonprofit leaders of color through self-directed leadership support and capacity-building to help their organizations and programs grow, thrive, and succeed.
Through Robin Hood’s funding, each Power Fund organization receives a catalytic investment and benefits from the access of Robin Hood’s management assistance and network support to build their capacity, including assistance with board member recruitment, fundraising, and strategic planning, in addition to intentional access to philanthropic, government, and community partner networks. The Power Fund leaders also receive self-directed funding for the continuation of their professional leadership development.
