STAFFING UPDATES
This Term, we welcome several new staff across both campuses:
• Ms Robertson (replacing Ms McKenzie, Family Leave – Primary)
•
Ms Kempton (Primary)
•
Mr Serra (Secondary Maths/PE teacher)
•
Mr De Carteret (Secondary Instrumental Music)
•
Ms Hannon (Secondary Integration Aide)
We wish all of our new staff a positive start and rewarding experience in their new roles.
We extend our thanks and best wishes to Ms Somerville, who has served our College community as Secondary Youth Worker for the past four years. Her tireless support of our most vulnerable students and her thoughtful guidance have left a lasting legacy.
MOBILE PHONE USE AND ONLINE SAFETY
I take this opportunity to reinforce our Mobile Phone Policy , which aligns with Department of Education expectations. All mobile phones must be switched off and securely stored during the school day unless special exemptions are in place.
•
The College leadership team will continue to work in partnership with families to promote responsible digital citizenship and safe use of technology. Further details are available on our website.
Furthermore, I draw your attention to important upcoming changes in legislation:
At The Lakes South Morang College inappropriate use of mobile phones is any use during school hours , unless an exception has been granted, and particularly use of a mobile phone:
•
It will soon be illegal for children under 16 to hold social media accounts
•
•
Principals will hold greater discretion to suspend or expel students whose online behaviour significantly compromises the safety of others
in any way that disrupts the learning of others
•
to send inappropriate, harassing or threatening messages or phone calls
•
Parents and carers may be held liable for failing to supervise and support safe online practices
•
to engage in inappropriate social media use including cyber bullying
