A HUB FOR ENGINEERING AND AVIATION RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

The Applied Aviation and Engineering Research Hangar Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University respectfully requests a matching $1 million investment by the State of Florida to provide infrastructure and equipment support for the development of a large-scale hybrid electric aircraft integration lab in its Applied Aviation and Engineering Research Hangar. By providing critical resources to build out infrastructure elements within the Hybrid Electric Aircraft Integration Lab, the State of Florida will place Embry-Riddle and the state at the center of the next technological and commercial revolution in flight propulsion. The State of Florida’s investment will help the university acquire a power supply and other necessary equipment to run a large-scale hybrid electric test cell. The

resulting capability will allow Embry-Riddle to partner with global aircraft manufacturers and other companies to test and develop hybrid electric aircraft propulsion systems for research and commercial applications. The State’s $1 million matching investment will: • Create the first and only large-scale hybrid electric aircraft test cell in the nation. • Drive investment from companies like Boeing, Airbus and GE Aviation—all of which have expressed an interest to partner with Embry-Riddle on its hybrid electric test cell—to conduct leading- edge research and develop commercial opportunities for the region. • Establish Embry-Riddle and Florida at the go-to place for the research and development of alternative energy aircraft propulsion systems. • Provide a one-stop solution to meet the industry’s growing demand for alternative energy propulsion testing and development. • Fuel opportunities for commercialization of university innovations and services. • Create new, high-paying, high-tech jobs in the aircraft manufacturing and alternative energy propulsion industry. • Will impact graduate & undergraduate level classes.
