PERFORMING ARTS The official theatre of Oklahoma can be found in OKC’s own Lyric Theatre . From Mary Poppins to world premieres, Lyric performs both classic and contemporary plays and musicals that tell stories of hope, empathy and foster conversation. Their home is at the Plaza Theatre in the Plaza District, but their large-scale musicals are held at the Civic Center Music Hall downtown. Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park offers performances in the warmer months in their Shakespeare Gardens in the Paseo Arts District or in their indoor black box theatre in the cooler months. Either way, their bold, imaginative retelling of the classics is entertaining to all. Led by Maestro Alexander Mickelthwate, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic calls the Civic Center Music Hall home as they bring nationally acclaimed artists and orchestral music to the city. They also offer concerts at Scissortail Park throughout the summer that are free to the public. The Oklahoma City Ballet is the resident dance company of the Civic Center Music Hall and boasts talented dancers from around the world. All of their productions are presented in partnership with Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the resident orchestra of the Civic Center Music Hall.
