PIZZA An all-American comfort food, good pizza can be found in practically every corner of the country. But here in OKC, great pizza is just as commonplace, exemplified by the sheer array of pizza styles, toppings and traditions. Empire Slice House: This Plaza District pie- oneer made an enduring name for itself with its punk-rock aesthetic and punk-rock pizzas, wherein New York-style slices come clad with atypical toppings like almond-basil pesto, buffalo chicken nuggets and barbecue chips. Stella Modern Italian: Inspired by her time abroad in Rome, owner Lori Burson brought a heartfelt slice of Italy to Midtown — and slices of wood-fired pizza, served on crackery crust and topped with seasonal, chef-driven ingredients like prosciutto and peach, or chicken meatballs with hot cherry peppers and fresh basil. Rendezvous Pizza: It’s the best of both pizza worlds at Bricktown’s Rendezvous Pizza, where both Detroit- and New York-style pies share the saucy spotlight. Try the Red Top Original Pepperoni, a thicker, almost deep-dish-style pie. And/or the New York Supreme, with large, floppy slices. Sauced on Paseo: For the widest array of pizza options — and irreverent toppings — in OKC, hit up Sauced on Paseo, a kitschy counter-service joint that tops thin, NY-style slices with the likes of vegan “chicken parmesan,” whipped ricotta, hot honey glaze and candied bacon. Dado’s Pizza: An homage to New York-style slice shops, Dado’s Pizza keeps it simple, classic and authentic, with 20-inch pies strewn with toppings like pepperoni, hand-torn basil, fresh mozzarella and juicy Roma tomatoes.
