Florence’s
The Jones Assembly
FOOD FOR THE PEOPLE Florence’s was the first James Beard Award winner in Oklahoma, when then 92-year-old Florence Jones received an American Classics Award for what she calls “country cooking.” Her menu is a mashup of soul, Southern and Okie country cuisine, featuring yam- fried chicken, turkey neckbones, catfish and Southern specialties like cornbread and okra. The Jones Assembly combines a massive indoor “patio” with conscientiously sourced food, a robust cocktail program and outstanding service. It’s a brunch destination, but dinner is phenomenal, too, and the patio makes it the perfect place to bring the family. You’ll find live music there many nights, and there are dishes for everyone from kids to omnivores to vegetarians. The drink menu includes classic cocktails, craft beer, an extensive wine list and an inventive beverage program. No one has won more barbecue championships in the past 15 years than owner of Clark Crew BBQ Travis Clark. And his awards include a win at the famous Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue. It seems Clark has won a championship for nearly every item on the menu, but you’ll want to start with the amazing beans and burnt ends before moving on to brisket, turkey, ribs or even the meal-for-two Diablo Burger.
