A Pride of Lions and Lioness The Port Stanley Lions Club and Lioness Club are once again giving back to the community in a big way. On May 30, the two service clubs hosted their third annual Community Appreciation Day, welcoming residents to enjoy free hot dogs and Mackie’s Orangeade while celebrating the organizations that help make the community stronger. As part of the event, the clubs presented nearly $49,000 in donations to eight deserving organizations. Recipients included the Port Stanley and Area Community Cupboard ($9,000), Camp Dorset ($900), YWCA ($4,400), Breakthrough T1D ($3,300), Pearce Williams Summer Camp ($1,500), and the Barrie Family Hospice Centre of Elgin ($4,500). The largest donation, $27,000, was presented to Central Elgin Fire and Rescue and used toward the purchase of a new utility vehicle to support local emergency services. Community Appreciation Day highlights the ongoing commit- ment of the Lions and Lioness Clubs to supporting local organi- zations and strengthening the community they proudly serve.
