of Bethlehem. It wasn’t all up and down the coast of the Mediterranean Sea where the babies were put to death, but rather only around this one neighborhood. Just how many in fants were killed we do not know. It was indeed a time of great sorrow. Why God allowed judgment to come in that manner is unknown. This reveals the desperate Satanic effort of Herod to destroy the Messiah. Q. Spanaway, Wash. — “What is grace? This is a question I am asked so many times. What does the king dom of heaven mean? is another question a young man asks. It would help me if I could answer him prop erly.” A. This is one of the most important questions anyone could ask. All other religions in the world are built on a works system. The curse of God is on anybody who tries to mix law with grace. Some define grace as unmerit ed favor. But it is even more than that. It is actually favor against merit. It’s not only that we haven’t deserved it, but also that we have deserved actually just the opposite. We only merited eternal peridition, but instead God is giving us eternal glory (Eph. 2:1-10) through His Son. The kingdom of heaven as used in the Bible, is taken from an ex pression in Daniel 4:25, where God was dealing with pompous, haughty King Nebuchadnezzar. It has refer ence to the time when God is ready to set up the rule of heaven on earth. It has to do with the reign of David’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, in the millennium. Large asking and large expectation on our part honor God. Through Christ the Son, Heaven’s light dispels earth’s deepest night. The man who is fighting sin is too busy to carry a chip on his shoulder.
ily. This relationship must be kept in its proper perspective. Humanly speaking, the man is to be the head of the house. This is by God’s au thority. This places tremendous re sponsibility upon the man. The fa ther must assume this place of leader ship by virtue of the marriage vows. We know that in many cases the wife may be a devout Christian while the husband is not interested in spiritual things. The wife will want to defer to her husband in everything except in matters of her own conscience to ward God. The Christian wife will want to do everything possible to keep from antagonizing her husband rela tive to spiritual things. Too many earnest Christian women have a ten dency to nag their husbands away from any interest in salvation. It is the duty of the wife to be just as considerate, loving, and gracious as she possibly can, showing forth the love of the Lord Jesus Christ in her life. This is not so much by what she says, but rather primarily by what she does (I Peter 3:1-7). If the man refuses to allow her ever to go to church, ever to have anything to do with spiritual things, ever to bring her children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, then the dear woman will want to talk to her pastor, receiving advice as to what course of action, as a last resort, might need to be taken. Q. San Francisco, Calif. — ‘‘How old was Jesus when the kings from the East came to worship Him? Also, why do you think God allowed so many babies to be put to death when His own Son came to earth? It must have been a very difficult time.” A. We do not know how old Jesus was. It is quite certain that the wise men did not come on the night of His birth as did the shepherds. Some believe that it could have been a few months up to two years. Christ was born in the very small community
