for God. Times without number fear ful souls have often admitted that they were just waiting to be asked. 9. Teach people to be quiet with God. We need to learn how to get beyond knowing about God to that stage of knowing Him personally. 10. Don’t overlook your own family as a place to follow these rules, and your own heart as a place for God’s Holy Spirit to convict and convince of sin, that you might be a cleansed ves sel, fit for the Master’s service. “WHY A STAR?” Every aspect of Christ’s incarnation is thrilling to contemplate. For instance, have you ever wondered why God chose a star to guide the way to the Saviour? He could have used something else. Why not a black cloud in the shape of a hand? Or He might have used a fiery finger pointing down to the sacred spot. That might have been more dramatic. Clouds, especially lead en ones, signify trouble. Certainly the world has had enough of that! But He might have used a shaft of lightning flashing and striking down at the very hallowed spot. Lightning represents de struction. It can be a shattering and consuming power. The world isn’t in need of human greed and selfish lust. The purposes of God are sometimes delayed but never abandoned.

WITNESSING STRATEGY 1. Live at the center yourself. To talk about Christ when He is plainly contradicted by your life is a wound to His body. 2. Don’t try to do people good; rather love them. He who tries to do people good stands knocking at the door, but he who loves finds the door open. 3. Develop skill in making contacts. There are many ways for this. Doing a kindness is one of the finest means. It. Discover the person’s real need. One of our senior chaplains in World War II would tell his men how to help others in the things of Christ. He would take out his watch and then say, “Ima gine you have a dying man here who has less than 2 minutes of conscious ness before he goes into eternity. Let me hear what you would say in those two minutes.” 5. Speak naturally. When the per sonal worker is saying a good word for Christ, he would do well to avoid technical terms. Warm, persuasive, and natural speech is best. 6. Speak about the Lord Jesus and not about yourself. Talk of self should be the undertone and all the stress should be about Christ. 7. Avoid controversy. A plain state ment of your convictions from the dis puted point is usually enough. The conversation can be brought again with gentle firmness to the area where it is most likely to be effective. 8. Bring people to a decision. Don’t hesitate to ask God for men and men 24
