Representatives from across the local concrete industry assembled in the Europa Hotel, Belfast on October 24 for The Concrete Society Northern Ireland Region Awards 2024. Featuring Project, Process Innovation, Lifetime Achievement and six student accolades, the annual awards recognise outstanding contribution by companies and individuals. Hosted by Paul Clark MBE of UTV Live, the gala evening served as a fundraiser for Concrete Society NI Chairman Enda McKenna’s selected charity OGCancer NI, which supports local patients and families affected by oesophago- gastric cancer. Other dignitaries joining Enda at the event included Concrete Society President Mike Amodeo and Chief Executive Claire Ackerman, Irish Concrete Society Chair Robert Laird and Concrete Society NI Young Persons Committee Chair Thomas O’Hara. Judged by three past chairmen of The Concrete Society NI Region, entries are assessed under the following criteria: Presentation, Innovation, Design
Complexity, Concrete Practice, Safety Elements, Sustainability/Society Impact and Demonstratable Benefits. “Congratulations to the winners,” said Enda. “The Judging Panel was delighted to see such a positive response from the local construction industry to the 2024 Awards and all of the shortlisted projects should be congratulated on the quality of their submissions. “It was reassuring to see so many Northern Ireland-based companies involved in such a wide variety of high- profile projects locally, in the Republic of Ireland and in Great Britain. “As always, the standard of entries has been high and, with such excellent entries entered, it gave the judges a tough time in selecting winners. The successful entries truly reflect the innovation and ingenuity demonstrated by our industry.” For further information about The Concrete Society, visit www.concrete.org.uk and navigate to the Northern Irish Region page.
