STAIRCASE BALUSTRADES
Metal Deck Ireland was commissioned to design, detail, supply and install long-span metal roof sheeting with safety net fall protection at the new training facility. With the campus encompassing various buildings with varied uses, specific design loadings and specifications were detailed for roof sheeting to be used on each separate building. Thomas Nugent, Director of Metal Deck Ireland, said, “Due to the design-and-build nature of the project, our drawing office was heavily involved in designing and detailing the roofing system. We were coordinating between the design team, builder, suppliers and our install teams from receipt of the order to fitting of the last sheet. “This is a very special project to be involved in as there will be generations of the emergency services for Northern Ireland trained at this facility and using skills gained here to serve our communities to the best of their abilities. “We have a long and valued relationship with Felix O’Hare, and they trusted us to find the most suitable products and deliver within the agreed budget.”
Peter Martin Engineering Ltd (PME) demonstrated its expertise in the design, fabrication, and installation of both the main and secondary
stair structure and balustrades for this college project. Project highlights identified by PME
Director Liz McElroy include the hidden fixings holding the glass and profile-cut holes to the riser plates, creating a lighter minimalist feel to the stairs. Liz said PME’s installation looks particularly impressive in its final setting with the grandeur and size of the main stairs contributing significantly to the overall aesthetic of the space. Emphasising the ease of collaboration with Felix O’Hare, she praised the contractor’s effective communication and commitment to maintaining project timelines. Previous collaborations with the main contractor include B/E Aerospace, Downpatrick Leisure Centre and Monaghan Peace Centre.
