Belfast businessman Ian Haldane, CEO of Haldane Group, has been recognised with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Octabuild Awards 2024. Presented at Dublin’s Mansion House, the award celebrates Ian’s remarkable contribution to the construction industry and his outstanding leadership in building one of the UK and Ireland’s most respected independent suppliers to the construction trade. Ian Haldane took the reins of the Haldane Group in 1991, succeeding his father and driving the business into an era of unprecedented growth. Under his stewardship, the company has expanded to operate 22 locations, generating a turnover of £165m and employing over 700 staff. This transformation has been underpinned by Ian’s focus on exceptional customer service, strategic acquisitions and diversification across construction materials. “The journey has never solely been about me, but more about the people who have helped me along the way, and I would like to dedicate this award to them,” said Ian. Haldane Fisher, established in 1946 by Ian’s grandfather, has grown from a local enterprise to a major industry player, supplying a wide range of products including building materials, plumbing and heating supplies, kitchens, bathrooms and engineered timber solutions. The company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability has also been a key factor in its success, with initiatives such as the installation of solar panels across branches, a transition to electric vehicles and advanced digital systems for health, safety and operational efficiency.
