A PROACTIVE AND COOPERATIVE APPROACH ALONGSIDE MAIN CONTRACTOR GANSON UK CONTRIBUTED SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE PROJECT’S OVERALL SUCCESS FOR DC DIGITAL… BIM
As project information manager, DC Digital Ltd was charged with ensuring BIM delivery adhered strictly to standards outlined in the client’s Exchange Information Requirements, the Integrated Supply Team (IST) BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and relevant industry standards. Key to its successful delivery was a meticulous approach to maintaining compliance, streamlining workflows and supporting seamless collaboration across all project stakeholders. Among challenges was assisting suppliers with their BIM delivery, particularly sub-contractors with limited experience in meeting the required standards and COBie deliverables. Rori Millar, Information Management Lead at DC Digital, said, “To address this, we adopted a collaborative and educational approach, guiding them step by step through the process. “This not only ensured compliance with project requirements but also equipped
suppliers with the knowledge and skills to confidently meet similar expectations on future projects, fostering long-term value beyond this engagement.” As a BIM-mandated project, use of a Common Data Environment (CDE) was essential, with main contractor Ganson’s in- house solution playing a critical role. “Serving as the single source of truth for the project, the CDE ensured all stakeholders had access to the most up-to-date information in one centralised location, eliminating the risk of outdated or superseded drawings being used,” said Rori. “We engaged regularly with the IST to assess progress on digital delivery, providing frequent updates, reports and audits to Ganson. This ensured the project remained aligned with the appointing party’s Exchange Information Requirements and the IST’s BEP. Using our in-house methods, we successfully verified the digital handover of information, rigorously
auditing it against project standards and requirements.” Getting the digital handover of the Asset Information Model (AIM) over the line was satisfying for DC Digital, as was successfully delivering each of the requirements to an exceptional standard. “Knowing that your recommendations have been integrated and that the project and ultimately the client have benefited from these is very rewarding,” said Rori. “It was a pleasure to collaborate with Ganson on this project. They consistently addressed any contractual matters or information requests related to the digital handover efficiently and promptly. “Their openness to innovation stood out; ideas we proposed to improve the quality of delivery were not only considered but also trusted and supported. This proactive and cooperative approach contributed significantly to the project’s overall success.”
