PROJECT PROFILE

PHOENIX INTEGRATED PRIMARY & NURSERY SCHOOL, COOKSTOWN

MEP CONSULTING Delap & Waller Ltd was appointed to undertake mechanical, electrical and sustainability design building engineering services. The project was delivered to BIM Level 2, with a phased approach to construction as well as a phased decant and demolition of the existing school and nursery. Passive design and efficient energy and zero-carbon technologies were deployed to achieve an 18.06% improvement over building regulation requirements, as well as compliance with Part F and BREEAM Excellent. An enhanced thermal envelope to minimise the space heating demand was achieved through improved u-values, airtight construction and enhanced thermal bridging details. Glazing was designed to achieve high levels of natural daylighting in all rooms, minimising the artificial lighting requirement and exceeding BREEAM Daylighting levels with an average daylight factor of >2% achieved across 80% of the floor area. Thermal comfort assessment has been carried out, demonstrating compliance with BB101 standards using local weather files. Established in 1911, Delap & Waller is a market-leading consultant in MEP, sustainability and digital construction with a team of 60 and offices in Antrim, Dublin and London.

BUILDING SUPPLIES DBS, a building supplies merchant with branches in Cookstown and Dungannon, provided a range of materials for the school project. Included was a roof insulation and air tightness package for the whole school building, as well as Swisspearl exterior cladding, a PVC soffit solution, internal acoustics and an internal skirting and architrave package. Sean Walls, Sales Representative, said, “This was a very satisfying project for us to be involved in, given the fact the project was less than a mile from our yard. “It was great to have a large building contractor supporting us, a local builders’ merchant, and helping support local jobs for all our staff members. “Ganson were very easy to deal with from start to completion and appreciated the reliability of our service and stock range. We liaised with both Ganson Purchasing Manager Marie McClelland, and Senior Project Manager Barry Agnew on site, who established a good working relationship with our own internal sales team, office and yard staff.”
