PROJECT PROFILE

PHOENIX INTEGRATED PRIMARY & NURSERY SCHOOL, COOKSTOWN

CIVIL & STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING CONSULTANCY Taylor & Boyd LLP provided full civil and structural services to Ganson UK under a design-and-build appointment for the new school. Its project team included Lead Partner Paul Taylor, Senior Associate Richard Patterson, Civil Engineer Adam Heaney and Structural Engineer Michael McElhinney. Civil engineering design included full cut-and-fill analysis of the site, providing optimum construction levels for the proposed surface finishes, full foul and storm drainage designs. Included were NI Water outfall locations and flow design parameters, full road and footpath designs to current DfI Roads approval and adoption standards, and the design of a new MUGA play facility on the site to current best practice guidance. Structural engineering design for the school and nursery building was provided with a REVIT model fully integrated with all design team disciplines. Pad and strip foundations were used to support the hybrid steel and masonry-framed, single-storey classroom blocks. A bespoke braced steel frame was used at one end of the main building to provide an architecturally-driven, inverted curved superstructure frame on the roof of the multi-purpose hall.
