AG PAVING + BUILDING PRODUCTS HAS HOSTED A SITE VISIT FROM BUILDHEALTH CHAMPIONS, AIMED AT OFFERING INSIGHT AND LEARNINGS AROUND ITS OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH INITIATIVES… Improving the occupational health provision in construction

BuildHealth Champions have been hosted by AG Paving + Building Products in Fivemiletown, in the latest of a series of site visits organised for representatives from its member organisations. A joint venture between the Northern Ireland construction industry and HSENI, BuildHealth aims to improve the health of the sector’s workforce. Each year, four Steering Group and four Champion meetings are held, along with an annual conference which tackles an aspect of health to provide learning for the industry. On November 26, the Quarterly Champion Meeting was held at AG Paving + Building Products’ manufacturing plant at Fivemiletown.

‘Champions’ are representatives from the member organisations, and each Champion Meeting offers an insight into the occupational health initiatives being implemented in the host’s business and provides a forum to debate common problems in managing occupational health and offer possible solutions. These interactive meetings allow attendees the opportunity for open discussion and the sharing of best practice. The AG Team offered an insight into its new internal Wellbeing Hub, which includes its ‘Activ8’ health and wellbeing programme and ‘Go Home Safe’ campaign. One of the Activ8 focuses is ‘Time to Talk’, encouraging the workforce to take time out and open up to each other, fostering positive mental

health for all within the business. The table discussion was followed by a tour of the manufacturing plant, offering attendees the opportunity to interact with the workforce and ask questions. BuildHealth’s aim is that these meetings will provide relevant learning, which can be taken back to member companies, and that this will improve occupational health provision across the local construction industry.

Contact Nicola McCracken on info@buildhealthni.com for information on upcoming meetings and to enquire about membership.
