Day 6: Kandy Today you’ll explore the bustling streets of Kandy, visiting the Temple of the Tooth, Buddhism’s most sacred shrine, and the Royal Botanical Gardens. Day 7: Nuwara Eliya This morning, leave Kandy behind and begin your journey to Nuwara Eliya. Watch as the scenery transforms from lush tropical jungle to towering pine forests which give way to an endless sea of tea plantations. Day 8: Elephant Transit Home Journey south, where a heartwarming experience awaits at the Elephant Transit House nestled within Udawalawe National Park. Watch for yourself young, orphaned elephants being bottle-fed during one of their daily feeding sessions, a touching sight that highlights the country’s dedication to wildlife conservation. Day 9: Yala National Park This morning, enjoy a guided tour of Yala National Park in a 4x4 vehicle. You’ll perhaps spot an elusive leopard, the island’s top predator, or elephants, saltwater crocodiles, wild boar and sloth bears. Days 10-12: Kalutara Return to the west coast for a guided tour of Galle, taking in the views of the imposing 16th century Dutch Fort. Days 1-2: UK - Colombo Fly overnight to Colombo then transfer to your hotel. Day 3: Dambulla Today you’ll head through the scenic countryside to visit the 1st century cave temples of Dambulla, set in an immense granite outcrop, featuring over 150 Buddhist statues. Day 4: Sigiriya Rock This morning, visit the fascinating Sigiriya, famed as Sri Lanka’s most iconic monument. Also known as the Lion Rock. It is a massive, 600ft granite tower, surrounded by a moat, beautiful water gardens and ancient murals. For those with a sense of adventure, the climb to the top is an unforgettable experience, offering panoramic views over the lush jungle. Day 5: Kandy Head to Kandy, the country’s royal capital, stopping off at a spice plantation en route, where you’ll see how pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon are grown. In the afternoon, check into your hotel and relax in the pool overlooking the scenic Mahaweli River.
