Sporting Review 2016-2017

Each time I am asked to sit down and reflect on the previous year’s events, I am amazed by the plethora of competitions, galas, regattas, tours and fixtures that have taken place over the course of the last twelve months. It would be impossible to try and encapsulate all of these special memories and so I will share with you the three most memorable moments of the year, from my perspective. As with most things in sport, these moments have been chosen subjectively, but they are moments that I believe encapsulate all the positive reasons why sport and physical activity continues to play a major role in the development of Alleynians. There are, of course, many more that I could have mentioned: Jake Scarisbrick’s century versus Brighton College; our Water Polo Tour to California; Saturday sport in general, where the atmosphere is unrivalled; finals week in the London Independent Schools Basketball League; the Public Schools Fencing Competition at Crystal Palace; ESSA finals; the 2nd XI hockey boys delivering another wonderful season under Mr Flower; the ski racing season as a whole; Mr Read’s elation at the 6th XI’s result v St Paul’s; the National Schools Rowing Regatta; more National Water Polo success that we now take for granted; Upper School House Swimming; any of these and many more would be worthy of mention, but I have to choose three, so here goes...
