VALETE

Jonathan Taylor <ӐãV}¶—

J onathan Taylor joined the Chemistry Department in September 2016, to cover for Iva Chetwood for a year. A conscientious, calm and dedicated NQT, he worked hard to plan interesting, inspiring lessons that not only covered the specifications, but incorporated real-life applications that he has experienced during his PhD and post-doctoral work. Popular with the boys, who appreciated his composed and scholarly demeanour, he proved able

to get through to pupils of all ages and abilities. Having shared a Year 12 set with him, I know that the boys hold him in very high regard and are very appreciative of all he has done to help them throughout the year. Within the department, Jonathan proved to be a dependable and genial colleague – always willing to do his share of duties: examination marking, staffing revision sessions or helping out with events. Keen to reflect on his own teaching, he

willingly took on board any advice that was offered. His most significant contribution to the co-curricular life of the College was through the Scouts; his willingness to get involved has been greatly appreciated. He leaves the College to take up a teaching position at Farrington’s School in Chislehurst. We wish him all the very best for the future and hope that he will stay in touch.

William Young 2}¶™Z»ÐÐ

W illiam joined Dulwich College as Director of Development (maternity cover) for 14 months while Laurie Hindley was away (May 2016-July 2017) and it is a testament to his professionalism that he so skilfully took up the reins, working with all in the wider Dulwich community with great success. An experienced fundraiser, William has worked alongside the Master and Governors, the Alleyn Club and OAs, Friends of Dulwich College and parents, colleagues and Alleynians

to strengthen our activities across Development, including furthering the work of the 2019 Society, our Bursary Programme, the Canon Carver Society and the extensive alumni and networking events programme. Of particular note during the year was William’s work in helping deliver a fabulous Laboratory Open Afternoon in September, his management of the sponsorship of the College’s new 52 lime trees – each tree being ‘sold’ within a few days of announcing their availability – and a successful

OA North American trip in tandem with the Music Tour in April. He has led the Development team with enthusiasm and energy, bringing to a close our fundraising efforts for The Laboratory and opening up possibilities for benefactors to support the refurbishment of the Barry Buildings in time for our 400th anniversary. With philanthropy clearly at the core of everything William undertakes, it has been a pleasure to have William as a colleague and we will most certainly stay in touch.
