The Alleynian 705 2017

W ellbeing is an integral part of Dulwich College Life. As Wellbeing and Pupil Voice prefect this year, I have been very much involved in listening to pupil opinion through monthly forums. Students are eager to communicate their thoughts on various topics in everyday school life. Some of the points of information which were discussed included:

Mobile Phone Usage As we are all aware, most teenagers now have smart phones, which can be used for recreational purposes as well as being an educational tool. The discussion from the forum showed pupils agreed that their smart phone was essential for school life. For example, they highlighted that it was an easy way to check their school email account. However, it was also mentioned that pupils looking at their phones whilst walking to their next lesson could cause accidents, especially whilst walking up or down flights of stairs. Therefore, it was decided that a ‘no phones in transit’ rule would be issued, in which you are not allowed to be on your phone whilst walking from lesson to lesson.

Free Learning Week

Students were asked a variety of questions on the Dulwich Free Learning Week. This year, the theme was ‘Dulwich Linguistic’ and many Lower, Middle and Upper School boys benefited from interacting with different cultures and languages outside of the classroom. The feedback was very positive, with boys commenting that they found the activities engaging, worthwhile and enjoyable. As well as chairing a number of these forums, I have contributed to the development of the Dulwich College Wellbeing programme across all years under the careful administration of Mrs Griffiths. Highlighted issues included sexual health, bullying and financial stability after leaving Dulwich. I would like to thanks Mrs Angel, Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Stanley for their support. JK
