The Weather Project by Olafur Eliasson

The emotional atmosphere of the piece makes viewers feel as if they are in another world where the normal rules don’t quite apply

aided by the warped mirrors on the ceiling, which expand the Turbine Hall and reflect the vastness of the space above. It also adds a sense of self-reflection to the piece, as it means you can look at yourself, how you are affected by the space and how you are experiencing it. In this sense, Eliasson simulates our experience of self-reflection by using representations of the real world as a means of reflection. Drawing on issues of light, perception and ecological experience, Eliasson created an artwork that was both transformative and immersive. It places us in a removed habitat, cultivated in the creation of a falsified elemental environment and in this alien space we are able to reflect on the inexorability of the weather and its impact on our daily existence.
