Curbside Giveaway Days During Curbside Giveaway Days, residents can place used items in good condition on their property (next to the sidewalk or curb) for others to take. This initiative gives useful items a new life while keeping them out of landfills. It also encourages recycling, builds a stronger community and contributes to a more sustainable city. Mark your calendars! Curbside Giveaway Days take place on the following weekends in 2025:
Leaf and yard waste collection The City’s weekly leaf and yard waste collection is back starting the week of April 15. The City will pick up yard waste materials every week on residents’ regularly scheduled collection day. Biweekly collection will begin the week of June 10. Leaf and yard waste must be placed out in Kraft paper bags or open-top rigid containers with handles, up to 121 litres (32 gallons) in size, and clearly marked “Leaf and Yard Waste.” Plastic bags are not permitted. If residents are not using a paper bag, they can place materials in a bin with a yard waste sticker. Stickers are mailed out upon request by calling Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or emailing service@vaughan.ca . They are also available at select community centres, while supplies last. The City’s leaf and yard waste weekly collection begins the third week of April each year to help protect native and pollinator-friendly species. Residents are encouraged to help protect pollinators by delaying seasonal yard work until later in the spring when temperatures are around 15 degrees Celsius and above. Yard waste and plants shelter butterflies, moths, bees and other pollinating insects in the winter. In early spring, these insects still hibernate inside leaves, stems and twigs, and collecting those materials too early might indirectly harm both the pollinators and the environment.
