WASTEWATER AND STORMWATER SERVICES The Wastewater and Stormwater Services team is responsible for managing wastewater treatment and stormwater runoff to protect public health and the environment. Public Works plays a vital role in maintaining catch basins to prevent water ponding and ensure proper stormwater flow. This proactive maintenance reduces flood risks, prevents contaminants from entering watercourses and supports York Region’s Mosquito Control program.
The City of Vaughan also operates more than 150 stormwater management ponds, which undergo routine maintenance to control water flow and preserve ecological balance. Designed to manage rainfall and runoff, these ponds help prevent flooding, erosion and water pollution. The surrounding vegetation plays a crucial role in water filtration, erosion control and deterring geese.
