Boyhood and Paddy Brennan win The BetBright Casino Handicap Hurdle Race

the finishing line three and a quarter lengths ahead of Agrapart. “I am chuffed to bits with that performance,” said a delighted Twiston- Davies. “That is the best he has jumped, travelled and gone for a bit.” An on-form Jacob added: “I have the two best bosses in the world – Simon and Isaac – and they give me a lot of confidence. I am really, really enjoying my racing.” The Grade Two BetBright Novices’ Chase was billed as a match between two of the season’s most exciting novice chasers, Yanworth and Willoughby Court. The pair, trained by Alan King and Ben Pauling respectively, started joint-favourites, but it was Colin Tizzard’s Sizing Tennessee who fought Yanworth all the way to the line. Yanworth, ridden by Barry Geraghty, held off Bryan Cooper and Sizing Tennessee by a neck for a thrilling finish. Willoughby Court, who had beaten Yanworth in a Grade Two at Newbury a month earlier, never sparkled and took third place by eight lengths. A relieved Alan King said: “Yanworth’s jumping was pretty good, especially when he was short. Full credit to Wayne (Hutchinson, King’s stable jockey) and Yogi Breisner, who have done a lot of work with him.” Another local trainer, Tom George, took the BetBright Casino Handicap Hurdle with Boyhood, under Paddy Brennan, winning by a comfortable seven lengths. Second was the Dan

Skelton-trained favourite, Red Rising. George said: “He’s been a babyish horse and hangs a bit – he was left and right, and on and off the bridle. He has taken a long time to learn what to do, but every time he runs I think he is learning a bit more.” Neil Mulholland and Noel Fehily claimed the first race of the day (and the year) with Tikkanbar, who justified favouritism in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. The seven-year-old made all the running and came home a length and a quarter ahead of Ainchea. The day closed with the EBF Stallions & Cheltenham Pony Club Bumper, a hotly contested Listed race. The winner, Acey Milan, under Aidan Coleman and trained by Anthony Honeyball, made an impressive three and three-quarter length triumph over Malinas Jack. Acey Milan continued to excel, winning a Listed race at Newbury and running a cracker to finish fourth in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper. He looks an exciting novice hurdling prospect for the forthcoming season.
