Girls will learn to interpret aviation maps and will plan a flight – determining how long it will take and how much fuel it will require. This hands-on activity is a great opportunity to learn more about careers in aviation and speak to female pilots. Length: 1-2 hours. Girls will learn to communicate like a pilot – from lessons on the phonetic alphabet and aviation terminology to practicing shorthand and exploring the various means of communication. Length: 1-2 hours. There are many ways to work in aviation – not just as a pilot. Girls will explore the many options available and discuss what education is required for each field. Length: 1-2 hours. Girls will learn the names, locations, and functions of the main parts of an airplane, while getting to know the “standard six pack” which is the standard six navigation instruments that are installed on all airplanes. Length: 1-2 hours. In this informative workshop, Girls will discuss the effects of weather – such as temperature, wind, precipitation, pressure systems - on airplane performance and piloting. Length: 1-2 hours.
