but now, O Lord, I have learned that Thou bast altogether purchased me, at the cost of Thine own life. I see that it means for me the full and continuous surrender to Thee of all I am, all I have, and all I •do. I yield myself to Thee; teach me to realize the meaning of “full surrender,” the secret of nearness and fellowship with Thee.- “We are the Lord’s.” — H a n dley C. G . M o u l e . ‘‘But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). This- is one of the richest verses in the Bible. It is a gold mine, with an inexhaust ible supply. It is a reservoir of water, to •supply a thirsty town. It is a well-stocked larder, to meet the family’s need . . . In the middle of the verse is the little word ■“need,” and that is the only limitation to the promise. Prove thè presence of a real need (not a wish'), and the fulfillment of the promise is ours. . . . To,-whom is this promise given? The verse speaks of “your” need—a personal address; and if we look back to the opening words of the Epistle (1:1), we shall see to whom it is addressed, “to all the" saints.” The word “saint” implies separation from the secular and devotion to sacred use. All true Chris tians are separated from sin by the blood of the cross and yielded to God by self surrender. The promise to all such is that their every need shall be supplied. ^ E - S elected . JUNE 8 Knowing No Lack “The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger; but theffithat seek the Lord shall not want any good thing” (Psa. 34:10). There is no occasion to go to the world for the supply of our spiritual need, for there is no help to be found there. . . . The unsearchable riches of Christ—unfathom able, inexhaustible, boundless, knowing no limit, never growing less, sufficient for all, stored in the glory, laid up for our supply— these are the riches upon which the be liever is to draw. I tried the broken cisterns, Lord, But ah! the waters failed, E’en as I stooped to drink they fled, And mocked me as I wailed. Now none but Christ can satisfy, None other name for me: There’s love, and life, and lasting joy, Lord Jesus, found in Thee. — C a n o n C h a r les A s k w it h . "Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee” (Gen. 12:1). The call of God is like the call of the sea, or of the mountains; no bjie hears these calls but the one who has the nature of the sea or of the mountains; and no one hears the call of God who has not the nature of God in him. When we hear the call of God it is not for us to dispute with God, and arrange to obey Him if He will expound the meaning of His call to us. As long as we insist on having the call expounded to us, we will never obey; but when we obey, it is expounded, and in JUNE 9 Hearing God’s Call JUNE 7 According to Your Need
