« An exemplary police officer » Sgt. Mueller began his police career as a special constable in the offender transport unit in Ottawa and was later hired as a provin- cial constable in 2006 later being promoted to sergeant in 2018. He was shot and killed after responding to a wellness check in Bourget on May 11, 2023. He is survived by his wife and two children. The main who shot and killed Sgt. Mueller Alain Bellefeuille, was found guilty of first- degree murder and the attempted murder of constables Marc Lauzon and François Gamache-Asselin. He was sentenced in a courtroom in L’Orignal Ontario on Saturday, May 24. Bellefeuille received two life sentences that he will serve concurrently. He will have no chance for parole for 25 year and no chance of parole for 20 years for the attempted murders, also concurrently. He has filed a handwritten appeal from the Ottawa jail, where he is waiting to be transferred to a federal prison. After the shooting, Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Thomas Carrique described Sgt. Mueller as an exemplary police officer and family man who demonstrated dedication to his duty and commitment to his colleagues during his 21-year career in the police force.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) held the first of four events in honour of Sergeant (Sgt.) Eric Mueller last weekend in Rockland. Resi- dents had a chance meet those who serve our community and get hands-on with the equipment they use every day. La Police provinciale de l’Ontario (PPO) s’est associée aux services d’urgence de Prescott et Russell pour organiser le premier événement Touch a Trunk à la caserne des pompiers de Rockland, le dimanche 6 juillet. Il s’agit du premier des quatre événements qui auront lieu dans les Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell, dont tous les profits seront versés au Fonds commémoratif du sergent Eric Mueller. (PPO)
